I won’t give away my age, but it was over 20 years ago when I had my first massage — and back then, I honestly had no idea there were different types. I was sore, wanted the pain gone, and figured a massage was a massage.
So I walked into a beauty salon and booked a Swedish massage, feeling pretty confident I’d made the right choice. An hour later I walked out relaxed, calm… and still in pain. The pressure was too light, my problem area barely got a look-in, and I remember thinking, “Well… that didn’t quite do what I hoped.”
These days I can laugh about it. I hadn’t booked the wrong therapist — I’d booked the wrong massage. And if you’ve never had a massage before, or you’ve had one that felt nice but didn’t actually fix anything, you’re definitely not alone.
So let’s clear things up.
What’s the Difference Between Massage Types?
Not all massages are created equal. Here’s a simple breakdown of the main treatments I offer — and what they’re best for.
Remedial Massage
Best for pain, injuries, and ongoing muscle issues.
Remedial massage focuses on specific problem areas, using firm pressure and targeted techniques to relieve pain, improve movement, and support recovery.

Perfect if stress is your main issue.
A gentler, full-body massage designed to help you switch off, unwind, and reset, rather than treat specific pain or injuries.
